“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” – Henry Miller
After a busy week of training (clearly not for me), we finally got the chance to go and explore our new town. Our first stop was this little medieval gem…It’s not everyday that you get to go and visit a 13 th century castle.
How crazy is it that something SO old is still standing and open to the public ?
- This red brick castle was founded during the late 13th century, its purpose was to serve as a military base. Later on during the 18th century the castle was taken over by the Russians and in the 1830s the castle was converted into a prison.
- Castles were centres of power during the middle ages, allowing the lord of the castle to dominate the surrounding regions military, administrative and economic centre.
The day couldn’t have been more perfect, it was actually really hot out. Now that I’ve checked this off the to do/ see list I cannot wait to see what else is around this little town!
